Tyler Garrett Honored for Accomplishments as Pegasus Scholar

A decade ago, firm partner Tyler Garrett was selected as a Pegasus Scholar through the American Inns of Court, which provided him the opportunity to live in London and immerse in the United Kingdom’s legal system.
Recently, Tyler was invited to return to London to be recognized for his accomplishments as a legal scholar.
“Memories all came rushing back as we turned onto Chancery Lane, approached the Royal Courts of Justice’s impressive Victorian façade, and saw the stream of bustling barristers moving with purpose toward the doors,” Tyler recalled.
In addition to attending the Red Mass at Westminster Cathedral (marking the opening of the legal year), Tyler was honored by meeting with judges at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Old Bailey, visiting Parliament, and sharing ceremonial dinners with barristers and legal scholars from around the world at the historic Inns of Court, including the Inner Temple.
The time Tyler spent studying the English legal system continues to benefit his practice today.
As he shares:
I first went to London a decade ago as a young litigator focusing on trials and appeals. During my scholarship, I worked inside the English legal system with extraordinary barristers whose profession is devoted entirely to courtroom advocacy.
As I once again walked those same cobblestone streets, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and experiences were again at every turn. The settings of legal London were remarkable, but what again stayed with me was what I observed in courtrooms. Barristers argued firmly with grace and intellect. Judges asked thoughtful questions and received direct answers. After court, barristers who had just opposed each other would sit together and talk as colleagues. Advocacy was serious, but professionalism was never optional.
The experience I had a decade ago shaped how I approach my own work as a trial and appellate attorney. And recently returning to London reaffirmed my high-level approach to trial work and appeals.
Clients often come to a lawyer at stressful moments—disputes, uncertainty, sometimes life-changing decisions. They deserve not only preparation and skill, but judgment, credibility, and professionalism in the courtroom.
The lesson I took from London was that effective advocacy is not loudness or theatrics; it is intellect, hard work, and trust.
Sometimes a professional experience stays with you long after the trip ends. This one never really left.
Please join us in congratulating Tyler on this incredible honor!
